Banksy

Banksy is an anonymous political activist who creates graffiti around cities. He started stencilled graffiti on the streets in the late 1990s.Banksy makes work that is categorised in political themes such as: capitalism, hypocrisy, greed and the war. this then also links to my work as he studies political matters and I have also concentrated on matters that have a political and protest meaning behind it. He links to my work as he creates his work to look humours to the matters of politics This is what I would do in my work as in my photos that I would be taken I would make the person look a little humours to show the way and the inspiration towards Banksy.

Banksy is also an anonymous artist this is because of many reasons such as,he is unknown because graffiti is a crime. He wants to show people that his work has a strong meaning behind as he targets capitalism. He wants the recognition and attention for his art, not himself and his anonymity has boosted his art work as everyone wants to know who he is.

In this art work he has been inspired by a quote "If voting changed anything it would be illegal ". banknsy has changed the quote to relate to what he does and what he is passionate about. he also creates this to show that the capitalists would force Banksy's work to be taken down as he paints them in a negative light that humours politics.

In his art work he has also been inspired by artists, this is a artist in the 1970s called Black Le Rat as he also uses the symbols of rats in his art work as he uses a quote why he uses rats:

“I began to spray some small rats in the streets of Paris because rats are the only wild animals living in cities, and only rats will survive when the human race disappears and dies out”.

Rats also signify Banksy as they only come out at night and relates how Banksy comes out at night to display his graffiti, rats are also sneaky and cunning animals and cause damage to peoples properties this then shows a link to Banksy as he is in that way. He uses that rat to signify him so in my art work I could add in a piece of the same information throughout my work that signifies what I am like as an artist.

He has chosen to create his art work not in a gallery this is what I would like to do I want to make billboard pieces that the community will look at. Banksy want to show his rebellion side towards the public who supports capitalism as this is why he displays it in places it is frowned upon. this sis why in my art work I want to display my work in places where people can seeing and they change change their perspective.

Banksy targets a lot of political matters around the world this is what I could look into in my further work to come I could focus on other issues that are arising. he has looked at consumerism in the pieces to the right and he has took an image from the Vietnam war and composed it to target Americans. He has used 2 recognisable faces to make other cultures look at Americans and how americas see themselves
