Guerrilla Girls
A group of anonymous feminists who fight against inequality in the art world. The Guerrilla Girls want to expose sexism in the art world. Their goal is to stop objectification and divert the male gaze. They produce their art work by making images into protesting boards like billboards, magazines and books. this is what I want to create in my work to show people on billboards my arguments towards animal rights to expose the real life. The Guerrilla Girls also appeared at museums to expose discrimination towards women in gallery work.
The group of women hide their identity by disguising themselves under a gorilla mask, they do this to let people question what they are protesting. The gorillas can be anyone and anywhere. The masks heightened there theatrically of their public performance.it allows them to protest and remain unknown so they would not face the repructions of institutions trying to silence what they stood for. In the 1980s many history courses did not include women artists and many of the women artists whose works are now well known were relatively undiscovered. I have been inspired by the way the work has been produced by how they hide their true identity because the way I am protesting I could hide my identity in my work and in my final show to make people look at my work other than me the artist.
