Hull-ferrins gallery

To gather more inspiration for my work i visited hulls muesuem this was to see the turner prize of 2017, to gather new ideas and more influences to my work.

Lubaina Himid

The Turner prize went to Lubaina Himid, when looking through her work I see there is a deep meaning for all of her work and i wanted to contrast this with my ideas. one of her pieces that inspired me the most is the plates with slavery images on to show the history of the slave trade, she created this because she wants to address the neglected cultural contribution made by people. When I first saw that this is what her artwork was about I feel like the idea on plates are to show the jobs that the slaves had to do such as wash the dishes and make the food. I like how she hasn't created her paintings just on canvas or paper she has experimented with different materials to make her paintings influential to the nation. She has made other painting to make people hear what she feels such as she paints on top of newspapers to send messages of humor and to draw attention to the parts of news that she drew upon and to show how black people are represented.

Another piece that she made is in the photos this piece was called "A fashionable marriage " this piece is to show a political and high state marriages and is based upon the marriages from the eighteenth century and the people in the set are cut from a variety of items such as wood and cardboard. there is a sense from Margret Thatcher flirting with Ronald Regan and Henry the 8th and a lot of high state members.
